Khalaf Khalafov: Convention on Caspian legal status still has uncoordinated points
The Working Group on development of Convention on Caspian Legal Status ended its 28th meeting in Baku. Representatives of the Caspian littoral states held a press conference after the meeting, SIA reports. Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov said they reached progress in the discussions: "A great work has been done. We had a dialogue for coordination of some issue, but many points are still uncoordinated".
He said that the delegations of the five littoral states - Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran - had reached agreement on some provisions in the draft convention.
Khalafov said the use of Caspian Sea’s surface, differences between the national zones, rights of the countries on the sea, navigation and navy forces were among the uncoordinated issues.
The Azerbaijani representative said that as well as working on the draft convention the sides were working on related issues, including protocols on environmental cooperation and work on a moratorium on industrial fishing of sturgeon in the Caspian.
