For the second time in recent weeks, the U.S. State Department has issued a statement, warning Americans of a terrorist threat to Western targets in Azerbaijan and urging U.S. citizens to be vigilant.
In a security alert, the U.S. Embassy in Baku said there was a "potential for attacks in Azerbaijan, including against American interests." It said the warning was "based on terrorist threat information." It added that U.S. citizens in Azerbaijan "should remain vigilant, particularly in public places associated with the Western community."
Israel’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau, attached to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, urged travelers to avoid "concentration of Israelis" in Venezuela, Egypt, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, Mali, the Ivory Coast and also Azerbaijan.
Political scientists Gabil Huseyinli told SIA concern the issue: "It is not the aim of the warning to aggravate a situation and intention of artificial character. The U.S. interested in the region, particularly in Azerbaijan, U.S has investments in the region. U.S. terror warning is more concern Iran. Iran will strike blow to the USA and Israel to reflect threat to economic and state interests going of any country, and also from neighbors. Iran undertakes all measures to prevent repetitions of events in Egypt and Tunis within the borders it’s own territory. It is not excluded that counter-measures first of all planes against the U.S.
Warnings like these from U.S. and other countries call for Azerbaijan government to be vigilant also.
