Electoral base of the ruling party of Azerbaijan has been steadily strengthened over the past years amid implementation of strategic projects by the country, and thus, rapid growth of the state’s revenues among consistently high oil prices, Head of the Political Scientists Club "South Caucasus" Ilgar Velizade said at the Moscow-Baku "Azerbaijan on the threshold of parliamentary elections" video bridge on October 27.
According to him, opposition experiences a serious failure during the parliamentary elections in 2005, and the following policy of revenge for its defeat in the presidential election in 2003 turned out to be very counterproductive. And that was resulted in easily getting the seats in parliament in 2010 by representatives of the ruling party and independent candidates, Velizade said.
He also noted that Azerbaijani society clearly remembers the years of instability and galloping inflation.
Currently "Yeni Azerbaijan" ruling party’s chances for success are objectively considered as the highest, according to Velizade.
"Amid the worries about difficult times, the population is particularly interested in obtaining guarantees to ensure stability. "Yeni Azerbaijan" is the only party which has the capabilities to provide such guarantees," Velizade said.
