Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has responded to the critical statements of US State Department, the Minister for European Affairs of the UK, the European Union and some other organizations over the verdict on Khadija Ismayilova.
SIA reports that spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Hikmat Hajiyev told that the first instance court issued a verdict against Khadija Ismayilova who are convicted under the Criminal Code’s articles 179.3.2 (assignment or waste in large size), 192.2.2 (illegal business), 213.1 (tax evasion) and 308.2 (abuse of official powers),
"We strongly condemn and consider unacceptable interference in the trial of Khadija Ismayilova, attempts to politicize the judgment and distortion of its essence, and the expression of the relationship in the form of political statements to the question, which is in a purely legal plane. Unfortunately, "Regrettably, there was a tendentious approach like intervention in and pressure on the investigation, and attempts to politicize it even at the time the charges against Khadija Ismayilova were still under investigation. These attempts are considered direct intervention in Azerbaijan’s sovereignty,’ Hajiyev stated.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stated that Azerbaijan fully ensure the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law. The decision of the court must be met with respect. The law establishes the right of every citizen to appeal the court's decision."
