Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker: 'Not all of those heading to Syria can be labeled terrorists'

The issue of the Azerbaijani fighters at Syrian battlefields has been raised at the meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament, according to SIA.

MP Zahid Oruj said Azerbaijani youths heading to Syria join terrorist groups therein. they are trained in the spirit of terrorism and will be used against Azerbaijan by some forces, he added.

"Considering the number of those going to Syria is on the rise, it’s time for Azerbaijani government to take an action. The parliament should make amendments to the relevant legislation and Prosecutor General’s Office should launch criminal case. Urgent administrative measures should be taken," he said.

Speaker Ogtay Asadov also regarded this matter as a serious problem, but not all of those going to fight in Syria could be labeled terrorists. The issue on hired fighters is very dangerous and complicated, and it is hard to prevent it. But relevant measures will be taken. We will do whatever is dependent on us," said the speaker.
