France attaches great importance to the first European Olympic Games which will be held in Baku.
The statement came from French Ambassador to Baku Pascal Monnier at the event, organized by the Embassy and devoted to the preparation for the European Olympic Games.
According to him, the opening ceremony of the Baku Olympic Stadium is expected to involve Michel Platini.
P. Monnier said that he has been working in Azerbaijan for already 1.5 years and during this period he has witnessed the rapid development of Baku. "Today Baku resembles Tokyo", he said.
"We are confident that Baku will host the European Olympic Games successful. Azerbaijan is a country of great ambitions. At the same time, Azerbaijan maintains stability in the Caspian region. Representatives of different nationalities live here and Azerbaijanis are very hospitable", Monnier said.
The Ambassador also stressed that discussions with the first lady were held in Baku in connection with the preparation for the European Olympic Games.
"The purpose of this event is to exchange experiences. Azerbaijan has achieved success during the Eurovision contest. But this is just a song contest, and the European Olympic Games is a major event", he said.
The diplomat stressed that, along with the successes there are problems that need to be addressed. "Yesterday I spent some time in a traffic jam. Therefore, I believe that there are traffic problems and other issues that need to be addressed", he said.
