The House of Representatives of the U.S. State of Hawaii has adopted a resolution on Azerbaijan and the US-Azerbaijani relations, the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles said.
The resolution said that the U.S. was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991, and established diplomatic relations with it in 1992.
"Over the past twenty-two years, the Republic of Azerbaijan has strengthened the sovereignty and independence, and has become one of the fastest growing countries in the region and beyond," says the resolution.
Regarding the achievements of Azerbaijan since independence, the resolution states that "the election of the Republic of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in October 2011 is evidence of the growing role and capacity of the country to maintain peace and security".
Stressing the high level of US-Azerbaijani relations, state MPs noted that the U.S. and Azerbaijan reached a good level of strategic partnership based on common values, interests and views .
The resolution called Azerbaijan "faithful ally and strategic partner of the United States in the critically important Caspian region".
The document also notes that Azerbaijan was one of the first countries that have had the unconditional support to the United States after the terrorist attacks of 11 September. The country also has its airspace and airports for the transport of goods of international coalition forces in Afghanistan, and the military forces of Azerbaijan help U.S. troops in the fight against terrorism.
The resolution noted that Azerbaijan is making its contribution to the energy security of the United States and European countries, and is one of the most important elements of the Southern Gas Corridor, which will contribute to the further diversification of energy supplies to Europe.
Regarding the relations between Azerbaijan and the Hawaiian Islands, the resolution emphasizes that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to enhancing relations with the State of Hawaii in all areas, including trade, culture and education.
In conclusion, the document notes the importance of further strengthening relations between the U.S. and its allies, such as Azerbaijan.
