Representatives of 72 countries have today visited Baku to attend the annual conference of WB-IMF Parliamentary Network, SIA reports.

Foreign visitors’ impressions of Azerbaijan:

Mr. Cyril Muller, World Bank Vice President for External Affairs:

"Having traveled I have seen amazing changes in Azerbaijan. And it is great pleasure to be back in Baku. Such kind of events give parliamentarians from around the world a chance to discuss issues that they care of much about, which are around the development, around economic growth and they come as a group from all countries in the world, and this is very important for the people from around the world to be here together. It is very hard to note what I’ve seen here. It is obvious that I first visited Azerbaijan in 1990s. And it was significantly poor country than it is today and I see a lot of evidence of strong growth in Azerbaijan."

Riccardo Migliori, former President of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly:

Thank you for wonderful hospitality and for having organized an important meeting about relations between World Bank and Parliaments. We need more transparency in activities of important government organizations. Representatives from Italy from Europe, from several countries in the world have today visited Baku. We have an important moment of underling the future of these important international organizations and I hope Baku is not only the important capital of Azerbaijan but possibly of the meetings of the World.I visited Baku three years ago. But now it’s very different and my organization for the security and cooperation in Europe will be here for presidential elections in October.

Bahadur Singh, Member of Parliament from India:

This is my first visit to your country. I heard a lot about Baku. But now I’m witness of your county’s improvement.

But the God has been kind to your country and précised you with oil and gas, yuo explore more but I think you require an improvement in your service sector, give emphasis to education.

Roy Calan, from Canada:

I have been involved with GOPAC (Global Organization of Parliamentarians against Corruption) for 10 years now. I was trying to work with parliamentarians around the world. As a result of which some states get rich and move money into the banks. So we work with parliamentarians to give them the support they need. We are quite active around the world. We have about 5, 00 members in about 50 countries. To be honest I didn’t expect as much when I came to Baku. I am very impressed. Everyone talks about how much has been done. Everything was under construction15 – 20 years ago. It is a quite modern and clean city. All my colleagues are speaking about your city being so clean, beautiful in the prominent park leading to the old city. You have such a contrast with the new and old. It seems coming along very well.

Professor Ali Ahmad, from African Parliament, Sudan

Baku is a very nice city, developed and one of the best cities I have ever seen in my life. The organization was very good. We found some people who received us in the airport and then brought us to the very nice hotel.
