Iran has responded to Azerbaijan after receiving two diplomatic notes from official Baku, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev has said, SIA reports citing AzerTAc.
"We presented two notes to the Iranian side – on May 1 and 6 - over the arrest of two Azerbaijani citizens, and demanded a meeting with them in accordance with the Vienna convention."
He said: "The Iranian side has today responded to our notes, saying that the Azerbaijani citizens were arrested on charges of attempting to be engaged in illegal activities."
Abdullayev added: "However, the Iranian side`s response does not specify what they mean by saying ‘illegal activities’".
