US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar has expressed hope that the upcoming 2013 presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be free and fair.
"We believe that elections in every country should run freely and fairly. We hope and expect that this is how they will be held in Azerbaijan," he told journalists.
In addition, the ambassador noted that any election is the decision of the people of this country, and no third country has the right to interfere in this process.
This week, Morningstar met with representatives of opposition ruling New Azerbaijan Party.
At both meetings, according to him, the ambassador discussed ways to ensure that the elections in October 2013 will be free and fair, and the citizens of the country will be able to exercise their free choice.
"The coming year promises to be interesting," said Morningstar.
