Official welcoming ceremony was held for Azerbaijan’s Defence Minister, Colonel-General Safar Abiyev, who is paying an official visit to Italy.
Defence Ministry’s press service told that Safar Abiyev held one-on-one meeting with Italy’s Defence Minister, Admiral Giampaolo di Paola, the meeting was continued with the participation of the delegations.
Friendship between Azerbaijan and Italy was discussed at the meeting, the two ministers underlined the importance of improving military cooperation. Safar Abiyev noted that Armenia has been occupying Azerbaijani territories for 20 years, one million people have been displaced, the four resolutions of the UN Security Council have not been fulfilled, the activity of OSCE Minsk Group towards peaceful solution to the conflict has not produced any results.
"Therefore, we are thinking seriously on this issue," Safar Abiyev said and added that Azerbaijan will take all necessary steps to liberate its territories.
Agreement on defence cooperation was signed between Azerbaijan and Italy at the end of the meeting.
Today, Safar Abiyev will visit defence industry facilities and familiarize himself with the weapons and equipment made in Italy.
