Deputy Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan, head of the Prison Service Madat Guliyev notes a significant reduction in deaths from pulmonary tuberculosis among inmates.
According to the Penitentiary Service, during a meeting with UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to physical and mental health, Anand Grover, M.Guliev noted that in recent years Azerbaijan has significantly improved the quality of medical services to convicts and prisoners suffering from tuberculosis.
This, he said, was made possible through broadening of cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Then Guliyev informed about the activities of the UN delegation headed by the structure, improvement of prison conditions, as well as the construction of the new penal institutions in accordance with modern international standards in the country.
In turn, the UN Special Rapporteur has expressed interest in the activities of the Penitentiary Service, organization of health services, as well as the rules of enforcement. The parties exchanged views on these issues.
The meeting agreed that the UN delegation will visit several detention centers and institutions.
