NAM's support to Azerbaijan's sovereignty elates us – FM

Today the Non-Aligned Movement plays an important role in supporting peace and security and in addressing many issues, including regional security and socio-economic development issues, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has said.

Addressing the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Egypt, the minister emphasized the importance of the meeting which was held in the period emerging security and peace challenges in the world, Gun.Az reported.

"The international community often faces economic and financial crises caused by regional conflicts, environmental problems, aggression, expansionist policy, terrorism, separatism, transnational and aligned criminality and extremism.

All of this brings about new objective in our joint efforts and once again raises the importance of sovereignty, dialogue and cooperation within the Non-Aligned Movement."

He said "the unanimous support of NAM member countries to sovereignty and internationally recognized territorial integrity of Azerbaijan elates us".

According to the minister, this support proves that the international community does not agree with the results of the aggressive policy of Armenia against Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"Supporting justice and equality in international relations in order to provide the observation of norms and principles of the international and freedom law in sovereign states was and is the main objective of Azerbaijan.

The world community should not allow itself to be neutral when an integral right of a sovereign country to pursue independent foreign policy faces attacks and its sovereignty, territorial integrity and sovereign state independence faces aggression."

According to the minister, Azerbaijan attaches a special attention to developing relations within the Non-Aligned Movement and contributed to the principles, objective and agenda of the movement.

"We are activating bilateral relations with NAM countries. Azerbaijan has started implementing programs of development of the movement's several member countries. We intend to further expand this activity in the future."
