Parliament addresses int'l community on Shusha's occupation
The next plenary session of the Azerbaijani Parliament has started discussing the issue concerning the 20th anniversary of the occupation of Shusha.

The MP from Fizuli, vice speaker of the Parliament Bahar Muradova was the first to speak about the issue.

"Although I am MP, vice speaker and participate in the policy of Azerbaijan, I am a citizen of Azerbaijan first of all. And most importantly, I am a displaced person deprived of my home and having my lands occupied. Our Shusha has been occupied for 20 years. Our Karabakh has been occupied for 20 years.

It was hard to live these 20 years without Karabakh, without Shusha. And it's extremely difficult to tolerate the injustice. It's difficult to see how some international circles and organizations for 20 years have shut eyes to this injustice, to this aggression. Therefore, I challenge you to view this issue not as a politician, but as a citizen, as a human."

MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev said that it was not worth expecting big states to respect the international law. He noted that international organizations were levers in the hands of the big states.

"The world has aggression, but no justice. Today politicians are dependent on lobbies, and don’t want to resolve this issue. And international organizations express the interests of big states. We must prepare our people to war and liberate our lands."

MP Zahid Oruj in his turn proposed to declare Susha as the second capital of Azerbaijan.

"We must know and assess the international reality. I regret that Azerbaijan is put in the place of Afghanistan or Zimbabwe. Azerbaijan has USD 45bn to wage war. They want to take away this chance from Azerbaijan."

MP Aydin Mirzazade said that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue was the primary issue of Azerbaijan.

"Shusha was occupied not because Armenia was strong. Powers behind Armenia were interested in it. In 1985, Armenian nationalist Zori Balayan performed before the USSR general. Would they provide the same opportunity to Turkish writers?!"

As a result of the discussions, Milli Majlis adopted an address to the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and parliaments of the world countries.

Vice speaker Muradova read the address. It says that Shusha city was founded by Panahali khan in 1756.

"It was an administrative center of the Karabakh khanate until the occupation of Tsarist Russia. As a result of the occupation, Shusha city underwent ethnic cleansing."

The document recalls that the OSCE Minsk Group was formed and four UN Security Council resolutions were adopted to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"Documents adopted by other international organizations also reflect the provision of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and liberation of its occupied lands. But in most cases, the aggressor country is put equal to the oppressed country and due perseverance is not demonstrated, which hinders the liberation of the occupied lands.

We call on the leading powers of the world to join efforts. We expect that the international community will show its position to persuade Armenia to give up its aggressive policy."
