On 20 April, Italian capital of Rome hosted a presentation of Baku magazine.
The event was attended by first lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Foundation's Vice President, founder and editor-in-chief of the magazine Leyla Aliyeva.
The presentation was opened by famous Italian TV host Massimo Ginni, who briefed the guests on the cultural values of Azerbaijan. Speaking about the ancient history and culture of Azerbaijan, Ginni noted that Azerbaijan being in between the East and West today acted as a platform of intercivilizational and interreligious dialogue.
Many events about Azerbaijan have been recently held in Italy, which serves to raise awareness of Azerbaijan in this country.
Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, editor-in-chief of the magazine Leyla Aliyeva addressed the event.
Being pleased with the presentation of Baku magazine in Rome, Leyla Aliyeva said that when she founded the magazine, her main goal was to form a publication with international scale.
"We try our best to ensure that Italian readers will like this edition," Leyla Aliyeva said and gave broad information about our country to the Italians. The vice president of the Heydar Aliyeva Foundation noted that Azerbaijan was a young country. But at the same time our country had an ancient history. In the Muslim east, women for the first time gained a right to vote and to be voted in Azerbaijan.
Stressing that a school for Muslim girls was opened in 1901 in Azerbaijan and first opera and ballet in the East was created in the same country, Leyla Aliyeva said: Azerbaijan has a very rich cultural heritage and ancient history. Baku does not just harmonize old and new with its Maiden Tower and Gobustan petroglyphs, but also embodies French building culture pertaining to the period of oil boom in early XX century.
I think that our country was always known for its open mind and tolerance. Cultures, religions and traditions have always been fused in our country. I hope that the Azerbaijani Culture Days organized in Rome by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation will help the Italian people to know our country even closer."
Leyla Aliyeva also briefed on the multifaceted activity of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, noting that the Foundation did great work to promote the Azerbaijani culture abroad and conducted fruitful cooperation with UNESCO, ISESCO and other international organizations. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation realized grand projects in educational, health, cultural and social spheres.
One of the priority directions of the Foundation's activity is to protect ecological health in Azerbaijan and region. The International Dialogue for Environmental Action was formed to this end, Leyla Aliyeva said adding that Azerbaijan would host Eurovision Song Contest this year, and invited the guests to the country.
