UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has received an invitation to the Second Baku International Humanitarian Forum held under patronage of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia.
The statement came from special envoy of the Russian president for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvidkoy after meeting Ban Ki-Moon at the UN head office, according to ITAR-TASS.
"This is the event that certainly deserves the UN attention. The Secretary General received the invitation with gratitude. He is especially interested in this invitation because Azerbaijan is now member of the UN Security Council. The fact that Moscow is the partner of Baku in holding this humanitarian forum is the sign that this event is going beyond the framework of one state", he said.
The first Baku international humanitarian forum was held on 10-11 October on the initiative of Russia and Azerbaijan under the patronage of Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Dmitriy Medvedev. It involved famous politicians, scientists, culture figures of 20 countries including six former presidents and five Nobel laureates.
Shvidkoy also confirmed the invitation to Ban Ki-Moon to visit Moscow for participation in the World Media forum which was to be held in early June. "This invitation was also accepted with gratitude", he said.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed the project ‘World culture capital’. According to the special envoy for the Russian president, this is quite a new project which Russia now works out with a number of European partners and which is planned to be launched in 2015.
