NATO has no plans and intentions to participate in the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict-James Appathurai

NATO Special Representative for South Caucasus and Central Asia, James Appathurai commented on actions NATO is ready to take to resolve the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh in his video appeal on the official Youtube channel.

\"NATO has no plans and intentions to participate in [the settlement] of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. There are some concerns about the state of the peace process, which is currently being held with the participation of all the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the OSCE Minsk Group including Russia, France and the United States.

However, only within the last few weeks we have heard here at NATO Headquarters the statements from the presidents that they are committed to the peace process", said Appathurai, while admitting that in reality the Minsk process faces some serious difficulties, especially in recent times.

According to Appathurai, the bellicose rhetoric between the parties, each of which is increasing its military potential has recently intensified.

\"This region does not receive the attention it deserves from the international media,\" said a spokesman for NATO, stressing the importance of the South Caucasus due to its strategic location, capacity and value as a supplier and transit country.

For these reasons, the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by peaceful means in accordance with the principles of international law is of exceptional importance, said Appathurai.

\"NATO hopes that the solution to the conflict will be found, however, I would like to stress once again that the Alliance is not involved in this process. We are only prepared to support the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group in finding a peaceful solution to the conflict\", Appathurai said.
