We would like Armenia to stay away not from Eurovision, but from Karabakh,Bagis says
Turkish EU Minister and Chief Negotiator has commented on Armenia’s decision to skip the upcoming Eurovision song contest to be held in Baku.

"We would like Armenia to stay away not from Eurovision, but from Karabakh," Egemen Bagis said.

The Turkish minister has received Turkish contestant at Eurovision Can Bonomo. After the meeting, the minister met journalist and answered their questions.

Asked about Armenia’s refusal to join Eurovision in Baku, Bagis said "we would like Armenia to stay away not from Eurovision but from Karabakh. I think it would be useful to review this opinion".

Asked about appeals sent to Eurovision against holding the contest in Azerbaijan, the minister said he was not informed about that but nonetheless, according to the minister, the appeals would have no effect. Bagis said holding the contest in Azerbaijan was quite a technical issue, since that country won the previous one gained a right to host the next.

"A country which wins the first place at Eurovision gains a right to host it next year. So, Azerbaijan won it and has a full right to host the next one.

Azerbaijan is already a respected factor in the international arena. It’s a member of the United Nations. This country respects the international law and is directed to democracy. No country has right to deny it. Other countries joining Eurovision have also diplomatic, trade, cultural and political ties with Azerbaijan. I don’t have information about such appeal but even if it exists, it will have no effect."
