Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister, Colonel-General Safar Abiyev, who is paying an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Iran’s Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Ahmad Vahidi.
The Defense Ministry’s press service told that prior to the meeting, official welcoming ceremony was held for Safar Abiyev. The national anthems of the two countries were played at the ceremony.
The meeting continued with the participation of the delegations. Iran-Azerbaijan relations and the situation in the region were discussed at the meeting. Ahmad Vahidi said Iran and Azerbaijan are close in terms of religion, history and culture.
Safar Abiyev spoke about the importance of the Nakhchivan meeting of Iranian, Azerbaijani and Turkish foreign ministers. He noted that Azerbaijan-Iran relations are normal.
The ministers held a press conference at the end of the meeting.
Safar Abiyev is expected to meet with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
