Mobile shelters for homeless opened in Azerbaijan from today

The Ministry of Labour & Social Protection of Azerbaijan has responded to the abnormal cold lasting for the last three weeks in the country.

At today’s MLSP Collegiate Organ meeting labour minister Fizuli Alakbarov has stated that since today the Ministry will put into operation portable shelters for the homeless citizens of the country, who are freezing lately in connection with the weather conditions.

"Speech is now of 4 temporary shelters, but their number is going to grow. We’d like to involve the public in addressing homelessness in order to make them aware of the availability of mobile shelters, where Ministry’s trained staff will provide them with necessary assistance and hot meals," Alakbarov said.

The problem of homeless people in the country is not as acute as in other regions of the former Soviet Union, but today’s actions will not be a single action.

"Currently it is a temporary shelter, but in the future we plan to build a special home for children from orphanages and those who came out of prison for time of their rehabilitation," Alakbarov claimed.

The minister did not bring statistics on the number of people needing the services of temporary detention centers.
