The European Court of Human Rights sided with Azerbaijan in the process of consideration of mutual claims filed by Azeris and Armenians against Armenia and Azerbaijan respectively.
Today in Baku Azerbaijan’s representative Chingiz Askerov has stated that the Supreme Chamber of the European Court discussed on 9 January two issues relating to Nagorno Garabagh: complaints of six refugees from Lachin against Armenia and the Armenian representative’s complaint against Azerbaijan.
The complaint of the Armenian, a resident of Armenia-occupied village Gulistan, says that Azerbaijan is allegedly violating his property rights and that the country destroys Armenian cemeteries.
"However, on the basis of our evidence the ECHR did not accept his complaint and considered it groundless. Following the session the Court took very important decisions, which we’ve been waiting for a long time. They indicate that Nagorno Garabagh is territory of Azerbaijan and Armenian armed forces have occupied part of Azerbaijan’s territory. As a result, more than 1 million people became refugees and internally displaced persons," Askerov stated.
