In 2011, trade between Azerbaijan and Turkey made up $3bn.

The statement came from Turkish Envoy to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kilic during his speech at the presentation of a film shot by TRT on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s state independence.

Kilic noted that last year, the figure was $2.5bn.

"We expect this number to increase more in coming years".

The ambassador said that during the last 20 years, Azerbaijan has passed through a great development process.

"The transit gas agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Turkey is of a great significance. In general, Azerbaijan has turned into an energy source for Europe. Many visits are being realized from Europe to Azerbaijan which show that this country plays a vital role in energy security of Europe".
