Miroslav Lajcak: The time has come to develop partnership and respond together to global issues between Azerbaijan and the EU

The delegation, led by Miroslav Lajcak, managing director for Europe and Central Asia at the EU's European External Action Service, arrived in Baku on Monday for a two-day visit.

The visit will focus on all aspects of relations between Azerbaijan and the EU, according to the EU's office in Baku.

"The European Neighbourhood Policy opens broad opportunities for the countries of the South Caucasus region. Azerbaijan is a special partner for the EU and has stable relations with us. We want to move further and quicker, as the country continues to reform," Lajcak said on arrival in Azerbaijan, according to news agency.

"The time has come to develop the partnership and respond together to global issues of concern to both Azerbaijan and the EU."

"The association agreement we are currently negotiating will move our relations forward in support of efforts to modernize the country," Miroslav Lajcak said.

The EU delegation is expected to meet Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Defence Minister Safar Abiyev, representatives of political parties, civil society, international organizations and the diplomatic community.
