Adam Johnson, England footballer will plead not guilty to child sex charges, his lawyer has indicated.
The 27-year-old, who is facing three allegations of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl and one count of child grooming, made his first appearance at Peterlee Magistrates' Court.
He arrived at court hand in hand with his girlfriend Stacey Flounders, 25, who gave birth to their daughter, Ayla, earlier this year.
During a short hearing no pleas were entered but the footballer's lawyer indicated that he would plead not guilty.
Mr Johnson was released on conditional bail and will next appear before Durham Crown Court on June 3.
