Rebels declare ceasefire in eastern DR Congo from February 4

The Congo River Alliance rebel coalition that includes the March 23 (M23) movement has declared a ceasefire in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for humanitarian reasons from February 4, Reuters reported.

The alliance also said that it has no plans to seize the city of Bukavu, the capital of the South Kivu province. Currently, M23 units are some 60 kilometers north of this city.

A ceasefire has been in place between Congolese government forces and M23 rebels in North Kivu. However, M23 units captured Goma, the capital of the North Kivu province, on January 26.
