“We highly appreciate and express our gratitude for the support of the Azerbaijan government and the Baku Initiative Group,” Ahmed Tabet, a member of the Mayotte Independence Committee, said at the Baku Initiative Group-organized international conference on “Illegal French Occupation of Mayotte Island of Comoros Union” held in Baku.
Highlighting his country's struggle for independence, Tabet remarked: "France is pursuing a colonial policy against our people. The independence of the Comoros was recognized by the UN. After 1975, France again stationed its army in Mayotte. Although there is a UN resolution calling for the withdrawal of the French army from Mayotte, the colonial country ignores it and thus opposes international law," Ahmed Tabet noted.
