At least three people were arrested Thursday night in a St. Louis suburb ahead of an anticipated grand jury decision on a white police officer involved in the fatal shooting of a black teen, SIA reports citing the AA.
Dozens of young protesters gathered in front of the Ferguson Police Department during a second consecutive night of protests, yelling at a riot gear-clad police line. Demonstrators gradually dispersed following the arrest of the three protesters.
Area police have largely limited their interactions with protesters to targeted action following 5,000 hours of training after vivid scenes of clashes between police and protesters in August.
Five people were arrested overnight Wednesday after blocking a street in Ferguson.
Tensions have risen in recent weeks amid rumors that a grand jury is set to decide if charges would be brought against Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson for the Aug. 9 shooting death of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown.
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency Monday, and activated the National Guard ahead of the looming decision.
The guard was previously activated amidst civil unrest in August, but was largely relegated to securing a media and police zone several blocks away from the site of the mass protests in Ferguson.
The St. Louis County prosecutor has said he expects the grand jury's decision will be reached by month's end.
