The Queen visits poppy memorial at Tower of London

Head bowed in reflection, the Queen paid tribute to fallen World War I soldiers at the Tower of London poppy exhibition on Thursday.

Accompanied by Prince Philip, the monarch walked among the sea of ceramic flowers, which will eventually number 888,246 – one for each British or Commonwealth life lost.

The poppies were handmade in Derby by volunteers with a family link to the heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice. This way no two are the same.

The art installation will consist of over 800,000 ceramic poppies, and serves to symbolises British and Colonial military fatalities in WW1.
