Two European aid workers were this morning shot dead in the western Afghan city of Herat in a targeted attack against foreign civilians.
The pair, both women working for a Christian aid organisation, were killed when a gunman on the back of a motorbike pulled up beside the local taxi they were travelling in while it was stationary and shot them at point-blank range, officials said.
