Russian flag burned in Poti

Russian flag was hoisted along with the flags of various counties by organizers of the children’s festival on Aghmashenebeli Street.

The rally was held in Poti later. According to the protesters and the members of the "National Movement", the Russian flag should not be hoisted in the town which was bombed in 2008 by the occupants.

"The flag of the country is hoisted in the centre of the town that moved with tanks here and bombed the sleeping town, when it still occupied 20% of the Georgian territories,"- Darejan Tskhvitaria, one of the members of the "National Movement" said.

Festival organizers, being isolated from politics, say that the Russian side has the desire to participate in the competition.

"Culture, sport and those who are not politicians, are distancing themselves from it, on the contrary, we can establish peace among the people,"- the head of "White Seagull", Darejan Geperidze declared.

Poti Mayor Davit Sarsania explains that the festival organizers have taken this decision themselves and he has not heard about it.
