At least 16 miners were killed in the collapse of a gold mine in Niaouleni in southwestern Mali, the country's Ministry of Mines said late Tuesday, SIA reports quoting the AA.
"An initial toll showed that 16 people –10 Guineans and six Malians - were killed," the statement said.
"Eight miners were also injured, including one in a serious condition," it added.
The ministry blamed the incident on the non-observance of a ministerial order that prohibits any gold mining activity during the winter months in Mali from May to October of each year.
