Meta introduces smart glasses with built-in display and wrist controller

Meta has unveiled its first consumer smart glasses equipped with an internal display. The launch took place at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, during the annual Connect conference, SİA reports citing Reuters.

Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg described the glasses as “the perfect form for a personal super intelligence,” noting that they provide artificial intelligence experiences without cutting users off from reality.

The device features a mini-display in the right lens for notifications, while the package also includes a wrist controller that responds to gestures for managing calls and messages.

The new glasses are priced at $799, with sales beginning on September 30. Meta also introduced Oakley Vanguard sports glasses priced at $499, which integrate with fitness platforms Garmin and Strava and offer up to 9 hours of battery life on a single charge.

In addition, Ray-Ban’s non-display line received an update with an improved camera and longer battery life, priced at $379.

Analysts do not expect massive demand for Ray-Ban Display, but they view the launch as a step toward the Orion glasses project planned for 2027. Global shipments of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headsets and smart glasses are forecast to rise by nearly forty percent in 2025 to more than fourteen million units, with Meta maintaining its leading position.

Despite some technical glitches during the presentation, Zuckerberg emphasized that the devices offer “great value for money.” However, experts caution that for widespread success, software will need to keep pace with hardware.
