Ambassador: Azerbaijan, Türkiye strengthening co-op in defense industry
Türkiye and Azerbaijan are set to further increase their international prestige through joint cooperation in defense, energy, and digitalization, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgun said at an academic seminar on Technology Geopolitics held at Khazar University.
He noted that expanding domestic production in Türkiye's defense industry has created new opportunities for the country.
“These advancements have greatly impacted cooperation with other countries. In this context, Türkiye-Azerbaijan cooperation has been elevated to a strategic level. Azerbaijan and Türkiye are working to strengthen cooperation in the defense industry."
Akgun also highlighted another area of cooperation: digital transformation and artificial intelligence. “Through joint efforts in defense, energy, and digitalization, Türkiye and Azerbaijan will further enhance their international standing,” he added.
The diplomat pointed out that Azerbaijan-Türkiye cooperation is centered around three main areas:
"The first of these is joint projects in the defense industry and military field. Through joint production and technology transfer, both countries aim to create a stronger defense industry environment.
The second area is energy security. Türkiye's involvement in projects like TANAP and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline plays a significant role in Azerbaijan's energy exports.
The third area is joint initiatives related to digital transformation and new generation technologies."
