Azerbaijan fully pays its membership fee to UN budget for 2025

Azerbaijan has once again become one of the first countries to fully pay its UN membership dues this year, UN Secretary-General's Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said, Report informs.

He noted that over the past week, along with Azerbaijan, Australia, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Ukraine have fully paid their membership contributions to the UN budget for this year.

To date, besides Azerbaijan, 24 other UN member states have made their payments. The UN budget is formed from membership dues of 193 states. The amount of contribution is determined based on several criteria, one of which is the country's ability to pay. The funds are primarily directed to cover administrative expenses of the UN central bodies - the General Assembly, special committees and secretariat, with a significant portion spent on peacekeeping missions.

Azerbaijan was elected to membership in the organization on March 2, 1992, by a resolution adopted at the 46th session of the UN General Assembly. On this day, Azerbaijan's state flag was raised in front of the UN headquarters in New York, and on May 6, Azerbaijan's permanent mission to the organization began its work.
