Successful external fixation osteosynthesis of the right femur performed at the Central Customs Hospital
On 14 April 2026, a 61-year-old patient, Reyhan Panahova, presented to the Central Customs Hospital. On 9 April, she was run over by a truck and sustained multiple injuries. Initially, she was treated at another medical facility, where a closed reduction of a complete dislocation of the right elbow joint was performed.
On 13 April, the patient was admitted to the Central Customs Hospital for further treatment. Upon admission, the following conditions were identified: immobilization of the right elbow joint (with a bandage/sling) after closed reduction, an intra-articular displaced closed fracture of the left ankle joint, a comminuted open fracture of the distal right femur, as well as contusion of soft tissues of the thigh and lower leg. After evaluation, the patient was admitted to the Emergency Department and subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit.
On 14 April, the patient underwent surgery performed by surgeon Ramin Rzayev. External fixation osteosynthesis of the right femur was carried out, along with irrigation and drainage of the wounds in the thigh and lower leg regions. On 17 April, a closed reduction and internal fixation of the medial malleolus of the left ankle was performed. Following treatment in the intensive care unit, the patient’s condition stabilized, and on 20.04.2026 she was transferred to the inpatient ward.
On 6 May 2026, the patient underwent necrectomy — complete removal of necrotic skin and soft tissues in the right thigh and lower leg region. At present, the patient’s condition is stable, the wounds are clean and calm, and laboratory parameters and body temperature are within normal limits. Further treatment is planned to continue on an outpatient and home-care basis.
