Numan Kurtulmus: Resolution of French National Assembly is a serious accusation that Türkiye doesn't deserve

The resolution of the National Assembly of France contradicts to historical realities and such documents only tarnish the image of parliamentarians, according to the letter of the Turkish Parliament Speaker, Numan Kurtulmus, to the president of the National Assembly of France, Yaël Braun-Pivet, regarding the biased resolution on Assyrians and Chaldeans adopted by French legislators on April 29.

Report informs that Kurtulmus expressed regret that the National Assembly adopted this unfounded resolution against the backdrop of Ankara's attempts to establish parliamentary ties with Paris.

"This is a serious accusation that does not correspond to historical realities and that Türkiye does not deserve. It is also regrettable that this document once again repeats statements that are unfounded from a historical and legal point of view regarding the events of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire," the letter says.

Kurtulmus emphasized that legislative bodies should make efforts to develop friendly relations between different peoples, and not create hostility by distorting historical events.

"Such resolutions that refute historical facts or make sweeping accusations of genocide, despite the fact that international law has a clear definition of this concept, tarnish the reputation of parliaments. Politicization of history and selective, biased and distorted interpretation of past events only create the ground for extremism and discrimination, religious intolerance and xenophobia," the letter says.
