Expert predicts Russia targeting Kharkiv in Ukraine, anticipating second wave of mass mobilization

According to Dara Massicot, Chief Scientist of the Carnegie International Peace Foundation and military analyst, Russian military might target Kharkiv city in Ukraine, demanding second wave of mass mobilization

The expert conveyed her perspective in a statement to the Financial Times, SIA reports.

Massicot, a former expert at the "Rand Corp.", an American research center executing orders from the US government and Pentagon, suggested that a minimum of 100,000 soldiers would be required for a significant offensive operation in just one direction.

NATO's European commander, Christopher Cavoli, indicated that the current Russian troop presence in Ukraine totals 470,000.

Western intelligence estimates suggest Russia has incurred losses of at least 315,000 troops since the invasion began, starting with a force of 360,000.

The Kremlin is presently augmenting its forces by approximately 30,000 troops monthly, drawing from "volunteers" in impoverished regions, who are offered contracts worth 200,000 rubles per month plus a one-time bonus.

Massicot asserts that without new conscriptions, Vladimir Putin may struggle to execute a spring offensive.

"If the Kremlin harbors ambitions to seize Kharkiv or southern Ukraine, the endeavor will prove more challenging, necessitating the gathering of even larger forces," Massicot added.
