Starting from Monday, March 11, Lithuania has initiated the impoundment of vehicles registered in Russia.
This development was highlighted by the country's customs representative, Irmina Frolova-Milašene, on LRT Radio, SIA reports.
She clarified that nearly 50 vehicles with Russian state registration are currently participating in road traffic in the country. Frolova-Milašene added that several more might be subject to impoundment in the coming days.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently warned Lithuania that any move to impound vehicles with Russian state registration would be met with reciprocal measures.
Should Vilnius proceed with this decision, it could be interpreted as a severe act of hostility at the state level, according to statements from the Russian side.
Simultaneously, the Lithuanian customs press service reminded owners of vehicles with Russian state registration earlier this month that they must either relocate their vehicles from the republic's territory or undergo re-registration by March 11, subject to fines and confiscation.
Furthermore, citizens are encouraged to utilize the remaining days to minimize risks associated with their properties.
In September of the previous year, Lithuania imposed a ban on the entry of vehicles registered in Russia, warning owners that fines and confiscation would be enforced starting March 11, 2024.
