State institutions must strengthen monitoring mechanisms on online platforms, conduct legal risk assessments, and implement preventive measures to ensure children's digital safety, according to Azerbaijani Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva, Report informs.
Speaking at a joint session of the Human Rights, Family and Women's and Children's Affairs, and Law Policy and State-Building committees of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, she emphasized the crucial role of parents:
"Parents must pay close attention to their children's use of digital platforms, maintain open and trustworthy communication, and educate them about potential online dangers. Applying parental control mechanisms is essential," Aliyeva noted.
The Ombudsman added that the new draft law under discussion aims to prevent violations and strengthen oversight mechanisms. She noted that it introduces penalties for breaches of age restrictions on social networks, sets requirements for user registration, and regulates the activities of providers operating in Azerbaijan. These measures, she stressed, are vital for addressing existing problems and safeguarding children's rights.
