Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei accused Washington of making unreasonable demands that are hindering efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Middle East.
According to SİA, citing Al Jazeera, Baghaei made the remarks during a press conference, saying that the United States continues to impose unjustified conditions on Tehran.
At the same time, he said Iran's response to a proposal linked to US President Donald Trump"s initiative for a permanent end to the conflict in the Middle East, conveyed through Pakistan, "was not excessive."
Baghaei said Iran had demanded respect for its legitimate rights, including an end to the war and what he described as "maritime piracy" against Iranian vessels, the unfreezing of Iranian assets, guarantees for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and broader security in the region and northern Lebanon.
"We put forward generous proposals not only in Iran's interests, but in the interests of the entire region. All of these issues were meant to be discussed within the proposed package," he said, adding that the proposals had been rejected by the US side.
Baghaei stressed that after Trump rejected Tehran's response to the proposal, regional security and stability had been undermined.
Responding to a question about a possible renewed US offensive, he said Iran is prepared to defend its interests if necessary while continuing to pursue diplomatic channels.
"Iran has shown that it is serious about defending its national interests and legitimate rights, while at the same time engaging in diplomatic processes in good faith and rationally. The other side must prove its seriousness. So far, it has denied this," he said.
