US House of Reps rejects anti-Azerbaijani amendments

The US House Foreign Affairs Committee has rejected two amendments to bills being considered as part of the US State Department reauthorization process, SİA informs.

Both bills were clearly anti-Azerbaijani and drafted by California Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman, who has long been influenced by the Armenian lobby.

The first amendment would have prohibited the US International Development Finance Corporation from providing any support for projects in Azerbaijan, while the second proposed repealing the US President's authority to suspend Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, which prohibits US aid to Azerbaijan.

The rejection of both amendments represents another blow to the Armenian lobby in Congress, which opposes US President Donald Trump's initiative to establish peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The State Department Reauthorization is an annual process by which the United States Congress reviews, clarifies, and extends the legal authority and organizational structure of the State Department.
