Hikmat Hajiyev: Military confrontation or escalation between Armenia, Azerbaijan is not on agenda

Military confrontation or escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not on the agenda, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, said in an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung, Report informs.

According to Hajiyev, efforts are currently underway to sign a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia:

"Sometimes countries sign peace agreements on paper, but there is no real peace. In the South Caucasus, it's the opposite; there is real peace. Military confrontation or escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not on the agenda. Some disputed points remain, which is completely normal. That's why we have diplomacy and dialogue."

The president's assistant added that Azerbaijan is ready for peace and the transformation of the region:

"The text of the peace agreement, which has already been prepared by Baku and presented to Armenia, has been largely agreed upon. This is very positive. Yes, there are still some unresolved details. For example, the Armenian Constitution contains claims to Azerbaijani territories. Every country's constitution is an internal matter, as long as it doesn't include the name or region of another country. We want to sign this peace agreement not only with the Armenian government but also with the Armenian people. We want to see Armenians officially renounce claims to Azerbaijani territories by amending their Constitution."

To the question, "So the issue is not just the Armenian Constitution?", Hajiyev replied: "We believe that once this issue is resolved, there will be no serious obstacles left on the path to peace."
