Thousands of works illegally exported from Anatolia are brought back one by one to their homelands. Baked earthenware, coins, small figures, statues and other unique works of thousands of years are being returned to Turkiye thanks to the efforts of the Anti-Smuggling Department of the Main Department of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, SIA reports.

More than 22,000 artifacts from all over the world have been brought to Turkiye and taken for protection since 1980. Since the beginning of 2022, 1120 artifacts have been returned. The artifacts were returned from USA, Croatia, England, Holland and Germany.

In this context, in the first month of the year, 21 earthen pots were returned from the United States. The dishes made in the local village style of the Roman period and found to be used in everyday life were brought to Turkiye on January 18. The works were taken to the Ankara Anatolian Culture Museum for protection.

Another historical artifact brought from the United States in January is a characteristic carpet from the 19th century. The work was returned to Turkiye on January 5 by "Mobile Museum of Art" (MMoA) in Alabama, USA. The 125x190 cm prayer rug preserved in the Directorate of the Ankara Ethnography Museum is notable for its "suzeni" technique.

Among the artifacts returned from the United States are 12 coins. As a result of the research, it was determined that the electrum and silver coins belong to the VI-III centuries BC.
