From promoting sustainable land management practices to enhancing water efficiency, agriculture has the potential to be a transformative force in the fight against climate change, said Jala Ibrahimova, co-chair of the COP29 Action Agenda Group, Report informs.
"The agricultural sector has the potential to be a leading driver of climate change solutions," Ibrahimova revealed said during an event themed “Launch of Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative for Farmers: Empowering Farmers for Climate Resilience", held as part of COP29.
"We are proud to maintain this momentum by launching the Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative for Farmers. This initiative will help increase harmony, coordination, and learning exchange to achieve greater impact," she said.
She added that under the COP29 Action Program, this initiative will bring together different endeavors, coalitions, networks, and partnerships around the common goal of strengthening efforts to increase the resilience of farmers, villages, and rural communities to climate change.
Ibrahimova also pointed out that last week, a Letter of Intent was signed with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to further advance this initiative. "Through this inclusive initiative, we aim to create an integrated system that not only responds to current climate challenges but also contributes to long-term sustainability, food security, rural development, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals," she said.
