Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Founder and Head of IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Public Union, participated in a panel discussion titled “BRI South-South Cooperation on Climate Change and Green Opening Up: Cases and Practices,” SİA informs via AzerTac
The event was co-organized by the Belt and Road Initiative International Green Development Coalition (BRIGC), the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), and the China Intercontinental Communication Center as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
In her address, Leyla Aliyeva stressed the importance of cooperation among Global South countries in advancing sustainable development and environmental protection.
She highlighted Azerbaijan’s significant efforts to expand the use of renewable energy sources and outlined the achievements of the IDEA Public Union in promoting environmental protection, maintaining ecological balance, and combating climate change.
Leyla Aliyeva also shared the outcomes of various environmental initiatives, including tree-planting and cleanup campaigns, wildlife restoration projects, and conservation efforts.
In conclusion, she underscored the crucial role of global solidarity and collaboration in addressing climate change and fostering green development.
The event was attended by Zhao Yingmin, China's Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment, Andrew Steer, Co-chair of the Belt and Road Initiative International Green Development Coalition (BRIGC) and President and CEO of the Bezos Earth Fund, Erik Solheim, Vice President of the BRIGC Governing Board, as well as other officials, experts, and representatives of the private sector.
