Digital technologies play a crucial role in reducing emissions impact and fighting climate change, COP29 president, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev said at a high-level roundtable on the Green Digital Action Program held within COP29, Report informs.
The minister noted that the information and communication technology sector accounts for about 4% of global emissions.
"We have to make efforts to minimize this impact. The International Telecommunication Union presented the Green Digital Action Declaration at COP29, which outlines our collective commitments. The application of digital technologies contributes to emissions reduction, climate change adaptation, and increased resilience," said Babayev.
He also emphasized that discussions during the event will focus on creating sustainable infrastructure, bridging the digital divide, and ensuring accessibility for all.
"It's important to find equal and fair solutions, especially for less developed countries. The COP29 leadership invites everyone to join these discussions, which will help achieve climate goals through digital transformation," noted Babayev.
