The British Minister for Development at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and Minister for Women and Equalities at the Department for Education, Anneliese Dodds, has made a call from Baku for multilateral development banks to do more to address global challenges, APA reports.
Speaking at the high-level panel on "Climate and Peace: Joint Action to Leave No One Behind" within the framework of COP29, Dodds emphasized that if we want to ensure that our response measures prioritize solving the problems when our interventions are tailored to different communities and contexts, we need everyone to join in the solution in the coming months
"We need to work together with a more unified approach. When we work together, we know what we can achieve. Our joint efforts have resulted in over $100 million in support from the Green Climate Fund to enhance the resilience of Somalia. Along with Somalia, the UK is working with partners in Chad, Syria and Yemen to create anticipatory initiatives and early warning systems to save lives and build long-term peace and stability.
They will work together to restore degraded land and water resources, reduce the impacts of floods and drought risks, and implement more sustainable agriculture. We hope this will demonstrate what is possible and inspire other funders and partners to do the same with displaced populations and host communities across the Middle East and North Africa. Let’s all support this important new call, make the most of the new network, and stay true to our principles at the next climate conferences in Brazil and beyond, showing the world that together we can do more. Our principle is to support the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people,” she said.
