Baku will host a Parliamentary Meeting on 16 and 17 November as part of the 29thsession of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). The event is being jointly organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is expected to welcome 92 delegations from 66 countries and international organisations, with around 330 participants in total. Among the attendees, there are to be 167 parliamentarians, including 12 speakers and deputy speakers.
The Parliamentary Meeting will address the following topics: the tangible implications of climate change, parliaments’ roles in reinforcing the ambitious measures to reduce emissions to carry into life climate-related commitments and ensure the inputs defined at national levels are made, development of the global climate financing architecture, increasing the resilience to climate change, promotion of a holistic and fair approach to the field, employment of technologies to combat climate change and to ensure fair access, the health and food security efforts amidst the changing climate, population relocation and climate change management, and other matters. A conclusive document will be adopted, too.
Several bilateral meetings are anticipated in the course of the event.
