Nizami Ganjavi International Center convenes high-level meeting in New York

The Nizami Ganjavi International Center will hold its 34th High-Level Meeting in New York as part of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly’s 80th session, the Center announced, SİA reports.

The meeting, scheduled from September 23 to 26, will take place under the theme “Multilateralism at a Turning Point: Challenges and Pathways to Peace.” Current and former heads of state and government, as well as leaders of international organizations, are expected to discuss global cooperation and the pressing challenges facing multilateralism.

The event is considered the largest parallel gathering during the UN General Assembly, attracting high-level representatives from more than 50 countries, including over 25 current and former presidents and more than 10 current and former prime ministers.

Co-chairs of the Center, Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga and Ismail Serageldin, will participate alongside the presidents of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro; the prime ministers of Bulgaria and Andorra; Slovenia’s foreign minister; the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO); the UN Deputy Secretary-General; the High Representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations; the Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); China’s Special Representative for European Affairs; the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU); and executive directors of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), UN-Habitat, the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and UN Women. In addition, former heads of state and government, as well as foreign ministers from over 30 countries, will attend.

Panel discussions and sessions will cover topics including global equality, climate change, international health, technological developments, and geopolitical trends. Preparations for the World Urban Forum 2026 (WUF2026) in Baku will also be a central point of discussion during the meeting.
