Azerbaijani cuisine shines at Paris International Gastronomy Village

The International Gastronomy Village near the Eiffel Tower in Paris has concluded, with Azerbaijan’s pavilion earning widespread admiration for showcasing the country’s culinary delights, SİA reports.

The pavilion was organized jointly by the Azerbaijani Embassy in France and the “Friends of Azerbaijan” Association and was visited by Ambassador Leyla Abdullayeva, fellow ambassadors, local diplomats, and festival participants from various countries.

The pavilion was decorated to reflect Azerbaijan’s national traditions and featured a setting accompanied by traditional costumes. Visitors were introduced to the finest examples of Azerbaijani cuisine, including classic dishes, local wines, and complementary performances of national music and dance.

Guests had the opportunity to explore the gastronomic heritage of the picturesque Gabala region, sampling dishes such as Shah Plov, Dolma, Qarali Plov, various pickles, and national sweets including Shekerbura, Pakhlava, and Badambura, accompanied by traditional Azerbaijani tea. Local wines and other national products also drew considerable interest.

Visitors expressed particular admiration for the Pakhlava and Shekerbura prepared by the “Happy Day Cake” confectionery house and gained insight into Azerbaijan’s rich traditional sweets culture.

The International Gastronomy Village provides countries with an opportunity to promote their cultural, economic, and tourism heritage through food. Each participating nation can present its signature dishes, sweets, spices, and other culinary specialties while highlighting its rich cultural legacy.

The event also featured tastings and sales of dishes and drinks, exhibitions of table culture, national crafts, costumes, and decorative items, along with live musical performances. Famous chefs from various countries conducted masterclasses during the festival.

It should be noted that the Paris International Gastronomy Days have been held since 2016. This year’s festival brought together pavilions representing more than 60 countries and representatives from nearly 120 nations, with an expected audience of over 40,000 visitors.

Organizers noted that a key measure of success was that many visitors returned to the Azerbaijani pavilion to relive the culinary experience after tasting the national dishes once.
